Triton Sperm Whale Pavilion

The Great Whale Tour: Emerald Zone Tourism Destination
Something big is happening on Newfoundland and Labrador’s Northeast Coast: the chance for visitors to get up close and personal with some giants of the deep – on land!  The Sperm Whale Pavillion in Triton is part of the Great Whale Tour Network of whale displays throughout the Green Bay/White Bay region.

Whales

The Town of Triton is nestled along the coastal region of Green Bay South in Central Newfoundland. Being surrounded by the ocean has many perks, which include fantastic opportunities for visitors to participate in whale watching.  There are many scenic lookouts throughout our community with panoramic ocean views which grant countless displays of whale activity from afar. For those more adventurous, you can even voyage out on the open water via boat for a more up-close-and-personal experience.
Icebergs

Triton is one of the best places to view beautiful icebergs in the spring and early summer around Newfoundland.  View icebergs that are thousands of years old which drift into the sanctuary of the well protected harbours around Green Bay and Triton areas.

Giant Squid

Imagine finding a giant squid while on route to a beach area that you visit regularly. On December 22, 2004, Derwin Roberts of Triton found a giant squid in Badger Bay measuring over 12 feet long.  Giant squids are the world’s largest living invertebrates and are rarely seen.

Why not stop into the Triton Sperm Whale Pavilion to see more on the Giant Squid and its interaction with the Great Sperm Whale.

Annual Caplin Cod Festival

The Annual Caplin Cod Festival takes place every August in Triton.  It is a great time to visit the town to take in the festivities and see old friends.

Maple Ridge Hiking Trail

Take an awe inspiring walk on the Maple Ridge Hiking Trail and explore where the North Atlantic greets our rugged coastline. As you hike to the top of Maple Ridge Lookout, you will walk through wonderful stands of deciduous and evergreen timber. Atop the ridge enjoy a panoramic view of Triton and surrounding area. Explore the area and learn how it has maintained a proud fishing heritage and rural lifestyle. After an exhilarating hike on Maple Ridge Trail take advantage of the outdoor swimming pool, floating docks and public pier, all conveniently located at the trail entrance.

Julie’s Harbour
Not only is Triton an outport fishing community, where the way of life for many people can still be observed by driving through this quaint yet contemporary community, but it is a place surrounded by historical areas. Along the outskirts of the area lie some interesting historical places. Julie’s Harbour, a 15 minute boat ride from Triton, is a deserted community which was settled in the 18th century. Julie’s Harbour, at one time, had a population of about 100. Visitors frequent the abanded community via boat tour offered by local operators in the area to explore its local landmarks, sandy beaches, old graveyards, and beautiful waterfalls.

Green Bay South Arena
The Green Bay South Arena serves in the winter as the home to Green Bay South Hockey, Figure Skating, as well as various other winter activities such as general skating, party bookings. The Green Bay South Arena has a public address system with wireless microphones as well as a hospitality room / canteen. During the winter season (November – April) contact the arena manager for hourly ice rental information and availability.
